Fort San Felipe dated from mid 16-th century. This is one of the oldest fortress in the New World. Fort San Felipe is the only construction form the time of Colonial era in the town having survived the destruction of the city by Spanish in 1605. Initially designed to keep pirates off the town with its eight-foot-thick walls Fort San Felipe also served as a prison. It is a historical museum these days.
